NFDI4Microbiota - Consortium and Vision
The vision of the NFDI4Microbiota consortium is that researchers in microbiology (including bacteriology, virology, protistology, mycology and parasitology) can effortlessly translate existing research data into a deep understanding of microbial species and their interactions at the molecular level.
The NFDI4Microbiota consortium aims to support the microbiology research community in Germany with access to data, tools for data analysis, standards for data and metadata, and a comprehensive training program.
The consortium is composed of a total of ten co-applicants and more than 50 participating institutions and is represented by Prof. Dr. Alice McHardyExternal link from the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and Prof. Dr. Konrad FörstnerExternal link (ZB MED). The consortium leadership is with ZB MED - Information Center Life Sciences.
Further information of the NFDI4Microbiota can also be found on the consortium websiteExternal link.
The focus of the consortium's work in Jena is to build up a virus database that does not exist yet and to expand the awareness of Jena as a location for virus bioinformatics also internationally. For further information and the current status of the virus database, please contact Prof. Manja MarzExternal link (Chair of Bioinformatics for High Throughput Methods).
The NFDI4Microbiota consortium started in October 2021 and will initially be funded with about three million euros annually for five years.
